The Artist
Rebecca Weiss is a dancer, choreographer, and educator, with a wonderful sense of humor and a strong entrepreneurial drive to take on the risks of creating new works and leading performing artists in new modern dance works.
Rebecca received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Choreography from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015. While at VCU, Rebecca traveled to Noto, Sicily where she studied and trained at Consorzio Universitario Mediterraneo Orientale (CUMO) under the guidance of Melanie Richards.
Since VCU, Rebecca has interned with Dance Place under the guidance of Carla Perlo and Shannon Quinn, two of the Washington DC area’s most acclaimed choreographers and non-profit leaders in the field of modern dance. She has also performed with Through the Fourth Wall Productions and ClancyWorks Dance Company. Rebecca teaches and works as a marketing coordinator with j.dance in Fairfax, Virginia, and is currently a company member with Jane Franklin Dance – performing and teaching through the Jane Franklin Dance outreach program.

In My Own Words
Near term goal: directing a show … an evening of art! Collaborating with artists such as videographers, painters, musicians, and partnering dance with these genres of art.
I picture it happening in more of a gallery setting, stepping away from the theatre and putting dance elsewhere – maybe even a boutique hotel. These are just beginning thoughts; funding would offset the costs of dancers, rehearsal space, artists, and the venue itself.
The Opportunity That I Bring to the Table
As a choreographer, I’m able to build and mold movement that compliments a company’s goals and mission.
I can creatively produce work that brings a sponsor’s mission statement to life with lively, aesthetically pleasing movement that audiences will remember for the artistry and the people who made it possible to see.
Imagine for a moment: an evening of collaboration that brings artists (musicians, poets, videographers, singers, fashion designers) together with contemporary dance. Presented in a more intimate setting, for example, working with local fashion designers to model their designs through movement and performance. Or with videographers, allowing an exploration of dance through camera versus the typical stage setting.
All woven together into a theme where art and corporate sponsors are showcased together.
What Others Say About Me
“My experience with Rebecca is that she is absolutely reliable and easy to work with. She is fun loving and also disciplined. In my choreographic work, I could not have asked for a more enthusiastic and creatively engaged dancer.” – Martha Curtis. Virginia Commonwealth University Dance and Choreography Professor. 2016
“Six ensemble dancers who represent the future free a solo dancer from the past and lift her in a final salute so they can let go of the burden of the Holocaust and seek peaceful lives for next generations.” -Connections Newspapers on Weiss’ choreography, “Through and Through.” 2017
