To discover, to burn brighter, to connect with one another and feel. That is the purpose of all of my work.
Dance technique is just one tool in the box of performing arts. I am interested in how to use it alongside other disciplines to give audiences an authentic experience that makes them feel deeply alive.
The only way to ‘make it’ is to do it together. Regardless of industry (but especially in dance), we must be unselfish to our audience and especially to each other.
Ana Brooks in NPAFE’s words…

…Our paths first having crossed with Ana Brooks’ in late April, 2025 when she responded to a NPAFE casting call for its Arc and Sound of Dance film initiative, we came away from reviewing her Instagram and cv saying to ourselves: “We may have just met someone quite special.”
…As it turns out, someone quite special indeed, we realized, once we actually got to meet Brooks a few days later.

…A Utah native whose first full contract after receiving her 2022 BFA from Brigham Young University was with Oregon’s Ballet Fantastique in Eugene, Brooks is someone whose eloquent dance voice, in words as much as in movement, drove her to a core and quite difficult professional decision: that if she was ever to succeed in pushing herself beyond the predictable, it was going to be right there in the rough and tumble of New York City’s industry of dance.
…Her eyes wide open to all the challenges that would lie ahead, moving east to the City is exactly what she did, bringing with her – and to the entire audience for dance in her new home – not only her preference for classical ballet and contemporary dance but also a poignant tenacity to lay upon New York audiences a fierce if friendly determination to present remarkable choreographic originality, that of her own creativity.

…By her own account, dance by itself is only a part of Brooks’ “offer” to those who love these art forms. Her impulse reaches to how the spoken word can be integrated with dance movement, how the use of video and film can be leveraged to break through the fourth wall so that audiences feel as much as see the artistry, and how an unconventional setting, perhaps a breakout room, perhaps a private mansion, can be the setting for the evocative intimacy of story-telling by the movement of a dancer’s body.
…In her own words? “I am interested in the combination and fusion of performing arts and eventually would like to direct my own company.”

…What would we be seeing in Brooks’ own dance company? What would we be feeling? Far more than the ordinary, if what is to be taken from her selective Instagram posts. Example? Her October 23, 2023 Instagram post, one that you can see below. Right there, you are hearing and seeing so much more than the elegance and eloquence of a dancer; indeed, you are in a moment where every word Brooks speaks, every point that she makes, guides you to what is so powerfully compelling about the ballet and contemporary dance art forms. Very few can put into words what so clearly counts in these arts, doubly notable when they are offered up by someone nominally still early in her professional career.
