Episode One: “A Dream Without a Map” – An unknown producer with an unconventional background hears a New Years Day 2024 radio broadcast and sets out to do what no one else is trying: film how authors of dance start at the very beginning to create an original contemporary dance creation meant to be filmed, not performed live, in a way that is truly immersive — not with VR and instead with radical use of 2D technology. And to feature dancers unknown to the world who’re just starting out in their careers. And to get a famous choreographer, a world-renowned ballerina, and an Oscar-nominated composer to lead the creation. He begins with only an idea, and almost no support. As rejections pile up, so do unexpected signals that the vision may be more real than anyone imagined.
Episode Two: “One Vision, Too Many Minds” – Three world-renowned artists step into the same digital and creative space for the first time. The conversations are exhilarating — and difficult. Each carries a different definition of excellence, immersion, and purpose. Meanwhile, CB watches closely as the idea begins to gain shape — or fall apart.
Episode Three: “The Choreographic Storm” – With the team finally assembled, the real creative process begins — and so does the storm. Across time zones and cultures, dancers begin learning phrasework through video links, Zoom calls, and trial-by-error. Lang’s music takes deeper root. Experimental movement is exhilarating and frustrating. The emotional cost of innovation becomes clear, as bonds form and fractures quietly begin.
Episode Four: “Translating Motion” – Dance, music, and film — three disciplines with different languages — attempt to speak as one. Choreography becomes more layered. Lang’s music sharpens the emotional arc. And the camera is no longer an observer: it becomes a partner. But the challenges of remote creation, cultural nuance, and untested formats begin to take a toll on everyone.
Episode Five: “The Tomorrow Cut” – Selection day. What began as a shared journey becomes a dividing line. The “Tomorrow of Dance” faces its first heartbreak. Friends become competitors, and artistry collides with practicality. Meanwhile, the race is on for costume and set designers to match the intensity of the performers — with almost no time to do it.
Episode Six: “Collapse / Adapt” – Everything that can go wrong does — and all at once. From delayed costume deliveries and lost footage to a possible dancer replacement and a canceled location, the production enters crisis mode. But beneath the chaos, something else is emerging: resilience, ingenuity, and an unshakable desire to make this impossible project real.
Episode Seven: “The Film That Breathes” – After weeks of struggle, the dancers
, mentors, and crew come together to shoot the immersive film. Nothing about the day is easy — weather issues, technical problems, emotional collapses — but somewhere inside the chaos, something extraordinary begins to emerge. Meanwhile, post-production decisions become their own battlefield, as the team tries to define the heart of ASD.
Episode Eight: “Afterlight” – The film is complete. The immersive video is unveiled to the world. Friends, artists, and strangers sit together in the dark and experience the culmination of a near-impossible dream. But endings aren’t endings. Even as ASD changes lives, it plants the seed of something new.
