Move. Make Move. Be Moved. This is Chelsea Boyd Brown.
Chelsea Boyd Brown believes that dance is a celebration and an exploration of our shared humanity. She is here to move, make move, and be moved.
A dancer, teacher, choreographer, nature-lover, and social activist based in the Washington, D.C. area, Chelsea has earned our great respect, and that of so many others, for her strong commitment to creativity, equity and community.
Early on, while still an undergraduate at the University of Maryland (UMD-College Park), Chelsea’s choreography was selected to be performed at the John F. Kennedy Center as part of the American (College?) Dance Association’s National Gala in 2014. In 2016, she was commissioned by Dance Place to create a new work for the annual Choreographer’s Showcase. NPAFE secured funding to almost double that commission. In May the same year, she completed her undergraduate work and earned a dual degree in Dance and Psychology from UMD.
Chelsea is a current dancer with PearsonWidrig DanceTheater and Heart Stück Bernie, and creating her own work. She has also performed in works by Stephanie Miracle, Orange Grove Dance, and Chris Aiken & Angie Hauser. As a teacher, Chelsea also teaches in Anne Arundel County’s Performance and Visual Arts Program (PVA).
Chelsea’s first creative initiative for 2017 centers on her choreographing a site-specific dance project combining the worlds of sustainability and the performing arts. Performances will occur on Saturday, May 13th, 2017.

As a performer, choreographer, and teacher, I take a holistic approach to the art of movement. We do not live in isolation; no man is an island. I see great value in bringing together our seemingly unrelated experiences and identities into dance. Whether we are dancing with the goal of technical proficiency, community-building, or both, we carry our past experiences in our bodies. I bring my whole self, and I am ready and eager to witness and connect with your whole self.
This collaborative project with the University of Maryland’s award-winning LEAFHouse brings to life the profound relationships between the sustainability of our anatomy, our relationships, and our planet. Audience members are led around and through LEAFHouse and, as they are hearing local music, add plants to the LEAFHouse green wall and taste local foods. It is a unique immersive event for all audiences!
