Nicole Baker

My style of dance is very fluid and cerebral. I tend to move and create movement through internalization. It gets me in trouble sometimes but has made me the dancer I am today.

I tend to overthink everything from everyday situations to movement creation but have learned when to take a step back, take a deep breath, and then move forward..

Every so often, if we’re lucky, we’ll meet someone who embodies just about all that we have ever admired in a human being.

Nicole Baker is one of those human beings.

A person who lives to dance, lives FOR dance, and then dances with that special passion that carries audiences all the way to ecstasy, Baker lives the rigorous life of a New York City-based performing artist competing for success against all the known odds – and a few unknown odds as well – in the toughest of environments where success never comes easy.

In her own works, in her role as Rehearsal Director and dancer in Eryc Taylor Dance (also New York City based), and in the stills and videos here, you see right away how much of a creative force Baker really is.

From her words above, you discover her tenacity, wrestling the City to the ground rather than letting it get the better of her.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Baker is driven to succeed not by besting anyone else and instead by offering us that rarest of pleasures, quite literally to “touch and see the goods” flowing from her creative vision, entrepreneurial drive, and follow-through.

For, together with her creative commitment to dance and to make dance happen at Eryc Taylor Dance, Baker has brought forth, quite from scratch and on her own, a unique and strikingly colorful series of images – herbs, animals, and plants – which under her brand name “Herb’N Beings” she has ported over to a wonderfully eclectic “I want all of them!” collection of hats, tees, canvas bags and even iPhone covers.
