Emily Masia in her own words…
…
It is so important to me that dance reflects and embodies humanity. By using my body, I express emotions and connect with the community.
Through my own unique movement quality and individuality, I can connect to others and depict stories, feelings, and who I truly am.
The never-ending possibilities behind dance truly excite me. There is always more to explore. I can constantly investigate and discover new ways to move my body, utilize the space around me, communicate different stories through my movement, and connect with others.
Emily Masia in NPAFE’s words…

…Our paths having first crossed with Emily Masia’s when she responded to a Dance/NYC post we listed for a NPAFE film project, it was immediately clear to us from her dance reel and Instagram posts that here was a quite special person of dance. We were hardly alone: all those Instagram likes, including many from other artists you’ll find here, said to us right away: Reach Out To Her!
…Are we ever glad we did. Gracious and positive in all that she says and does, here is a dancer-choreographer of distinct passion and originality in thought, words, movement, and the choice of time, place and music to match her creativity. Add to this: her entrepreneurial courage to live and work in New York City, the world’s most competitive city for achieving success in ballet and contemporary dance, and her willingness to share her know-how with students of dance, and not just at Juilliard.

…Few do as well as does Masia when she is using her body not only to draw us into the story she is telling but also into the story that we begin to tell ourselves: the quiet pace of her journey across a dance space opens the way for us to give time to our own imagination.
…In fact, it is quite the privilege to be witness, whether you see her on screen or on stage, to the way Masia translates her knowledge of dance into self-inspired choreographic travel. Especially striking to us along with the self-evident grace of her dance movement is her core self-confidence that, when she is centered on matching whatever might be a moment of inspiration to dance improvisation or purposeful choreography, we will feel as well as see the power of original authorship by an impeccable artist.

…What also strikes us as a distinct Emily Masia positive is the importance she assigns to collaboration, namely sharing ideas about how to approach complex challenges and define solutions to get to where she and her colleagues might want to go.
…Her thoughts about her profession and the people who populate the world of dance extend way beyond how they might chart a moment of dance movement. Masia’s focus is on the people creating those moments. Where they have come from. What they aspire to. How hard they are working to realize their hopes and dreams. What stories they want to tell as they lend their own minds and bodies to movement magic.
