I aim to create multi-disciplinary work, born out of collaboration, that truly immerses my audience, awakening vision and heart.

In my work, I’m above all searching for truth and rawness. My goal is to distill experiences and emotions which are complex, diverse and multi-faceted into something which is instantly felt — through movement.

Listening is a keystone of my creative practice; I believe it’s only together that we’re able to make surprising, honest and boundary-pushing work.

…Passionate. Prolific. Polished. Pioneering. Potent. Those power words and many more belong in any narrative about Katya Bourvis.
…Especially Potent. For, within this United Kingdom dance artist lies a potent one-person human laboratory that right now is supercharging the world of dance, singularly marrying research, people and technology to create new forms of live and video dance movement meant to immerse audiences deeply.

…Along with her extensive international performance career including the English National Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, and the Royal Opera Ballet, Bourvis has won the trust of world brands like Chanel and Polydor, engagements that came her way because others already a part of critical brand-reputational projects chose her for their confidence that she could and would produce choreographic excellence.
…Which she did then. Which she does now. And which goes a long way to explain why Bourvis has won so many awards, was chosen for a Sadler’s Wells residency in 2021, and has received backing for directing, choreographing and sound designing her own films, video masterworks that have been selected to premiere at acclaimed film festivals and online magazines. Next to come: two compelling video initiatives in the works: “Sleeves” building on “Pia” (video below) and then “Space Between”, both setting new standards for the video visualization of dance.
